Our state convention occurred earlier in October in Salina. Several people attending the October District 1 meeting were honored at the convention. Margaret McGillivary was welcomed to the 80+ group. Reaona Hemmingway received a Service Award for dedicated service at state, regional and local levels. (Carol Yoho read the nomination essay to attendees and District 1 President Duane Johnson presented the award to Reaona.) Duane Johnson placed in the state writing competition with a performance-poetry award (a new poetry category in '18). He performed his winning entry for those attending our meeting. Congratulations Margaret, Reaona, and Duane!
We will have a Read-Around at our KAC District 1 meeting on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018.
Writers with winning entries in this year's writing contests will go first during the read-around. President Duane Johnson has also invited students who won or placed in the Youth Writing Contests to come to our meeting and read; in the event some of them show up, we will limit readings to 5 minutes. If you wish, you can buy a lunch in the Millennium Cafe and join us for lunch in the Menninger Room (206). Our business meeting will begin at about 12:15 PM, and the program will begin at 1:00 PM. During our business meeting, we will begin the process of determining who District 1's officers will be in 2019. If you are interested in serving in some capacity next year, particularly as district president, please let Duane Johnson know either at our meeting or via e-mail prior to our meeting. |
