The December Minutes, Agenda, and newsletter were received via e-mail.
Present: Duane Johnson, Myron (Max) Dunavan, Roger Drozj, Reaona Hemmingway, Glory Hemmingway, Anne Spry, Fred Appelhanz, Ruth Maus, Connie Michaels, Duane Herrmann, and Jan Stotts.
Anne Spry opened the meeting at 1:00 p.m. Members then shared their 2021 intentions about their writing related goals for 2021. Everyone seems to have high hopes and objectives for the 2021 writing season.
Announcements: Jan S. shared that she is involved in an online poetry readings group at 2:00 p.m. She discussed the event and how to learn about future gatherings.
Newsletter: Members received their first example Newsletter from Anne Spry in the past few days and it looks great with advance information on the 2021 KAC Conference. This is a part of the value-added products that the Membership and Marketing committee has been researching and developing. Introduction of the newsletter also initiated a discussion about a fast and easily accomplished communication device for contacting members about time sensitive information such as contests and deadlines. Questions were asked about whether the KAC Zoom meeting has the capacity for polling and discussion about the availability and workability of our Facebook pages, Facebook Groups, etc. A show of hands sent this issue back to Membership for further research.
Secretary’s Report by Max Dunavan was approved as printed with motion for acceptance by Ruth and seconded by Reaona. The motion passed. There was discussion about whether Duane was part of the audio/video equipment committee for the annual conference but it did not require revamping of the December Minutes. It was later clarified that Duane Johnson and Max Dunavan will serve on that committee.
Treasurer’s Report by Reaona Hemmingway was presented advising that there were no changes with the balance remaining at the same amount as reported at our December meeting. Glory made a motion to accept and Ruth seconded and the motion passed.
Committee Reports:
The January meeting was set aside to work on details related to the 2021 annual two-day convention hosted by district 1 in Topeka the second weekend of October
Program: Carol Yoho was unable to join us online from Padre Island, but we did review the materials in the newsletter prepared by Anne.
Membership and Marketing: Ruth reported on the committee’s progress in initiatives and draft materials. She shared information about value added services for members, partnering, funding ideas, speakers, student scholarships and student mentoring as well as several district meeting speakers. Max has been in touch with Washburn University Law School, the Kansas Bar Association and drafted three letters regarding student scholarships, an author invitation to join, and partnering letters aimed at Kansas district libraries. New tasks for the committee were identified.
Discussion followed on the KAC Zoom availability for various activities, the potential for sharing speakers with other districts, and so forth
State KAC Activity: Duane Johnson spoke about new online opportunities through state KAC administration for members to attend special programming plus follow-up with KAC writing contest winners. Duane will check on when information about new members should be expected. Check the State KAC Web pages.
Adjournment 2:35 p.m.
