Participating: Anne Spry, Ruth Maus, Barbara Brady, Roger Hoge, Thea Rademacher, Fred Appelhanz, Barbara Waterman-Peters, Carol Yoho. Glory Hemmingway, Reaona Hemmingway, Duane Herrmann, Duane Johnson, Alice Dunavan, and Max Dunavan
Welcome by President Anne Spry at 1:00 PM.
Secretary’s Report: The minutes were reviewed as submitted by Secretary Dunavan. Ruth Maus offered a post script and the report was moved, seconded and approved.
Treasurer’s report: Treasurer Hemmingway provided an interim monthly report. It is in flux because of convention bills still pending, refunds that need to be completed, as well as additional funds coming. A good discussion to aid in understanding of where we stand financially on overall convention costs was very informative for participants. The convention budget was in the black. The provisional report received a motion for approval, was seconded, and approved.
Old Business:
The 2021 annual Convention. Many thanks were shared around for the skills of the District One and state planning teams with member names mentioned. One comment from State president Johnson was that we “knocked it out of the ball park.” We exceeded last years member and visitor participation. Several students took advantage of the special student rate. We commended Julie Sellers, Ruth Maus, Anne Spry, Duane Johnson and Alice Dunavan, who all received writing awards (Firsts, second, third and honorable mention recognition in state writing competitions). Thanks to all who donated skills, time or resources and congratulations to all of these winners and all who entered the contests.
New Business:
NOTICE! We will be having a hybrid meeting in November using the library meeting room (auditorium with ample spacing), as well as a ZOOM format. Be sure to take advantage of this opportunity! Watch for information in your e-mail.
A reminder. You should now be receiving frequent notices of KAC statewide news and District One news. Please read those and become aware of the meetings, opportunities for writing, and events.
Election of Officers: The current slate of District One officers has agreed to serve another term, These, in addition to all nominations from the floor, will be considered for the November election ballot.
The Membership and Marketing Committee has been determined to continuing its mission to recruit new members and partners and provide quality programs at meetings. It was determined that we should prepare a recognition and marketing piece honoring member Julie Sellers for her fantastic number of wins in this year's writers awards.
Program:
The October meeting consisted of readings from winning poets and authors, as well as other authors with a reading to share. We thank them for their participation.
Meeting adjourned at 2:18 PM.
