Present: Duane Johnson, Max Dunavan, Ruth Mahs, Carol Yoho, Julie Nischan W., Duane Herrmann, Jan Stotts, and Fred Applehanz
Welcome: President Stotts welcomed the participants to the Zoom platform meeting at 1:07 p.m.
Secretary’s Report: The report is online on the KAC State/ District One web page. There was a motion that was seconded to accept the minutes as posted. That motion was approved.
Treasurer’s Report: The treasurer was unable to be with us today and there was no report provided. Jan advised that we have made no expenditures the past two months. An effort to obtain those reports is necessary.
Old Business:
As there is not yet a discussion about returning to face to face meetings, Duane clarified his attempts to get the State Board to pick up the costs for Zoom meetings through their budget. It seems to be a complicated process, but those negotiations seem to be moving along.
Selection of the October weekend for the Topeka based KAC Conference was still unresolved and after discussion, it was determined that the 2nd weekend of October is preferred. A vote was taken to officially select the second weekend for the 2021 October Conference. That decision was then communicated to Linda at Topeka’s Ramada Inn Downtown).
We wish there were more District 1 members participating in the Zoom meetings.
New business:
Participants discussed several ideas relative to the 2021 Conference theme. Those ideas will be floated in the minutes posted for today’s meeting. Janet Stotts worked with participants in the meeting to finalize conference chair appointments as follows: Duane Herrmann is the Program Chair of the Theme Committee with Julie Nischan assisting. Carol Yoho is the Program Committee Chair assisted by Fred Applehanz. There were general discussions about selection theme and potential speakers as well as suggestions of specific individuals who might be interesting and available. If members have ideas and suggestions, they should get in touch with Carol Yoho.
Duane Johnson has been placed in charge of researching and bringing information back to District One relative to establishing an “Online Open Mic” venture through KAC. The idea has potential benefits, but many, many details needing researched and considered.
Several of the district one members present have entered works in the KAC Writer’s contests by the June 15th deadline.
Duane Herrmann has recent success in publishing prove and poetry this summer. He reports recent submission and acceptance for publication as follows:
Program: Jan challenged members to come up with an “A to Z” poem on topics of our choices. Seven participants chose to read and there was also general discussion about the works and how listeners were affected by the readings.
Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned. No regular meeting was scheduled.
(Recommendation: As many members are not attending the ZOOM meetings, please send an e-copy of the minutes to each district one member).
