Present: Duane Johnson, Myron Dunavan, Ruth Maus, Janet Stotts, Ann Spry, and Carol Yoho.
Welcome: The president, Jan Stotts brought the meeting to order at 1:03 p.m., greeting the members participating in the Zoom-based monthly meeting.
June Minutes: by Secretary, Max Dunavan: The Minutes of the June, 2020, meeting are online and a motion was made and seconded and the minutes approved as posted.
Treasurer’s Report: Again this month there was no official Treasurer’s report. Jan advised that there had been no money expenditures. There were comments and brief discussion that we need an official report in writing if the treasurer couldn’t manage to participate in the Zoom Meeting. Janet advised that she would call and try to get that to happen.
Old Business:
Convention Planning business for the October 2021 Convention at Ramada Inn Downtown in Topeka, Kansas (we’ve reserved the 2nd weekend of the month). Jan wanted to talk about the theme of the convention. We discussed the Chair's ideas as well as the previous suggestion of “Writing in Difficult Times.” Most participants preferred the earlier suggestion as it could include and be broader for obtaining guest workshop leaders and speakers while incorporating the Program Chairman’s ideas. We held off until the next meeting to vote hoping that Chair Duane Herrmann can be with us then.
New Business:
We have 39 members of record with current paid District #1 memberships, but few are attending the Zoom meetings and the participants believe that most members have the capacity to participate on line. They may be unaware of ongoing meetings or that the minutes are online. Max Dunavan asked that meeting reminders and the minutes be sent to each member via e-mail, so they will be aware that we are still meeting, planning the 2021 convention and be generally aware of our monthly activities. There was general consensus among participants that this was a good idea. Janet agreed to extend the reminders and minutes to the e-mail list beginning immediately.
June Program:
The business portion of the meeting over, we moved on to the Program. We were asked to read other authors’ work (our favorite authors or others). There were five volunteer readers. These excerpts included:
The meeting was adjourned by 2:30 p.m.
